I am not your run-of-the-mill liberal Democrat, in fact with the exception of President Obama - I haven't voted for a democratic candidate for President since Jimmy Carter. That said, I believe people like me are the reason Barack Obama won his race in 2008 and he is going to need us again - if he is to be reelected in 2012.

When the President gave the order to take out Osama bin Laden, his stock with me and other independent voters went up dramatically. I believe President Obama should continue to go after terrorists and bring them to justice one way or another. If the President is looking for a strategy to win big again in 2012, he needs to bring the terrorist enemies of this great nation to justice.

The President told congressional leaders that NATO is taking the primary role in this conflict, with the United States only operating as a supporting partner.

I believe President Obama should ask for a declaration of war against Libya, if he continues to use US military and intelligence resources in what from all practical appearances is a war. Ever since Vietnam, I get concerned when a President of the United States uses fancy wording to not call a war what it really is.

Several leaders, on both political sides, are urging President Barack Obama to go to Congress and get a war declaration against Libya. Even as the President continues to say that US military activity in Libya is not a war, to most Americans and congressional leaders it is certainly beginning to look that way. To date, there has been no official war declaration offered by the President or passed by either chamber of the Congress.

I am old enough to remember the last conflict the United States refused to label as a war. That conflict was in Vietnam and we all know how that eventually turned out. The US Congress is doing President Obama a favor by trying to get the entire country behind military action. The President should obtain a war declaration or get this country completely out of Libya.

Water Boarding Did Not Lead To Bin Laden's Death

The GOP has been working overtime to convince the American people that it was "water boarding" that lead to the death of Osama bin Laden. While it is true that the person who gave up bin Laden's courier was indeed water boarded during the Bush administration, he did not give up that information until months later when his captors (US) started treating him better. For Dick Cheney and others in the GOP to wrongly contend that it was the water boarding that lead to Osama bin Laden's death is completely false. Even at the end of the Bush administration, they determined that advanced interrogation techniques (torture) were not working - so they abandoned them.

Unlike President George W. Bush who has taken the high road since leaving the White House, his Vice-President Dick Cheney continues to try and rewrite history when it comes to the effectiveness of torture. On this issue, President Obama was correct in ending water boarding and other forms of advanced interrogation techniques, because he knows as President Bush learned later, that it's easier to get information from captives who are treated humanly, rather than using torture which causes them to say anything just to stop the pain. It's time for the GOP to stop lying to the American people by saying that it was torture that lead to the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden.

President Obama On 60 Minutes Show Tonight

Earlier tonight, President Barack Obama was interviewed about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden for the full hour on "60 Minutes". It must be difficult for die-hard Republicans to see the new and improved hawkish Obama. I watched "60 Minutes" tonight solely to see what the President had to say about the mission. While I expected him to slip-up and say something either stupid or arrogant, he did not. In fact, after watching the President for almost an hour on TV tonight - he seemed more presidential then at any time during his short time in office.

Just image the difference if this raid in Pakistan went wrong and Osama bin Laden was not even in that compound? Rather than riding a wave of American support, President Obama would be criticized from every direction especially from his liberal base. Instead, the raid was a complete success ending with the death of the most wanted terrorist in the world. While killing Osama bin Laden will not help President Obama with liberals, it most certainly is helping him with moderate voters who he will need once again in order to get reelected in 2012. The President did a good job on "60 Minutes" tonight.

Many die-hard members the GOP have shown their true colors this week as President Obama has been widely praised by the American people for killing Osama bin Laden. The slogan being used on Fox News and other conservative media has been, Mr. President - "stop spiking the ball". Does anyone think that if President George W. Bush would have gave the order to killed Osama bin Laden that he would be acting any different than Obama? Of course not, he would have been visiting military bases just like President Obama has done and correctly drawn attention to the brave men and women who made this action a success.

What really scares the GOP is that President Obama has gone from a dove on military power to a hawk and that move will make it even more difficult for them to defeat him in 2012. For a long time, the use of US military power has been a Republican only issue - but now, President Obama has proven himself up to the task to take bold action when it is necessary. Nothing President Obama could do worries the GOP more than for him to become a hawk on US foreign policy. Most Americans are very patriotic and President Obama's OK to send the military in to kill Osama bin Laden raised his stature with them dramatically.

GOP Leaders Find It Hard To Thank President Obama

I watched some of the coverage on Fox News yesterday and as time went by it appeared they were having a difficult time praising President Obama for signing off on a raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Has the Republican Party become so short sighted that they cannot even give credit where credit is due? It looks that way and it's a crying shame what has happened to the party that Ronald Reagan built several decades ago. When George W. Bush was the President, these same GOP leaders and promoters were always complaining that the Democrats would not support the President during a time of war. However, now that someone other then Bush is the President - these same talking heads cannot find the strength to praise President Obama for his leadership in this matter.

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised when President Obama signed off on a raid to kill Osama bin Laden. Frankly, I did not think he had that kind of intestinal fortitude - but I was wrong. Not only did President Obama and his administration get the job done, but they also were able to accomplish their task without the operation leaking out to the media. I know that members of the GOP would love it if President George W. Bush was on the one to bring Osama bin Laden to justice, but he did not. The credit for the death of Osama bin Laden goes to President Obama, just as the blame for this raid would have if something went wrong. Republicans are making a big mistake by not praising President Barack Obama for what he accomplished. Their silence is making them appear very small.

Obama Looked Very Presidential Last Night

Many Americans who voted for President Obama in 2008 have been less then pleased with his leadership style. However, on Sunday night as he talked to the American people from the White House and told everyone that Osama bin Laden was killed by the US military - President Obama appeared larger than life. Tears came to my eyes as he talked about how US special forces had located and killed bin Laden. Where has the President Obama of Sunday night been all of these years?

Sadly, Barack Obama initially believed that the best way to promote America around the world was with kind jesters toward our enemies, instead of with firm leadership. Last night, President Obama looked like a real US leader for the first time and I hope he continues to use his high office to protect this nation and lead us into the future. President George W. Obama Visits Alabama After Tornado Damage

Later today, President Barack Obama is expected to visit the State of Alabama to inspect the damage after multiple tornadoes struck there on Wednesday. Some areas of the US south-land were completely destroyed when dozens of small and large tornadoes ripped through that area without mercy. I'm glad that President Obama will be visiting areas in Alabama after these storms. Sometimes, a President does not want to travel to devastated areas too soon after a storm - because his appearance will take law enforcement officers involved in search and rescue away from their normal duties and put them instead in jobs protecting his safety.

Whether it was President Bush before or President Obama now, it is always good for locals to see their President in person after a major destructive event. At last count, at least 300 people were known to have been killed in Wednesday's rash of tornadoes in the southern part of the United States. In addition to his visit today to offer encouragement and moral support to the citizens of Alabama, President Obama quickly approved that states governors request for massive federal government aid in the form of money and rescue equipment.

Poor GOP Field Against Obama In 2012

Most polls show that President Barack Obama is not very popular in the USA right now. However, that does not mean that he will not be elected by the American people to serve another four years in the White House. The best thing going for President Obama is a weak field of GOP candidates for President in 2012. The top names on the Republican side who will likely challenge Obama in 2012 are old ones that the public has already rejected as party leaders. There are some folks who claim that Sarah Palin will be the GOP nominee for President next year, but I believe she has no intention of running against President Obama in 2012.

Right now, the political pundits have New Yorker Donald Trump at the top of their list to challenge President Obama in the 2012 general election. However, I still believe it is unlikely that Trump will stay in the GOP nomination fight for President race until the bitter end. Instead, I expect Donald Trump to continue to make headlines as the front runner in the 2012 GOP primaries and then decide at the last minute not to finish his run the nomination. While some people believe that Donald Trump is helping out his country by running for President of the United States, I believe he is instead interested in nothing less then self promotion - which will make him even a richer man next year - before he eventually drops out of this race for good.

Trump/Birthers Win - President Obama Lost

It really angered me when Donald Trump showed up and started saying that Barack Obama was not a legitimate President of the United States, because he refused to release his origional birth certificate. Sadly, when all the dust settled - it was Donald Trump and the birthers cause he championed who won this fight, while President Obama and his supporters lost. I do not understand why President Obama did not release his origional birth certificate years ago, instead of letting some guy like Trump take a non issue and make him look bad?

Donald Trump was all over the news on Wednesday promoting and patting himself on the back for forcing President Obama to release his origional birth certificate to the press. All President Obama accomplished by waiting until this late date to release his origional birth certificate was to embolden the already narcissistic Donald Trump to stay in his race for President even longer. I disagree with President Obama on many issues, but that does not mean that I think he is some kind of fraud. Donald Trump won big on Wednesday when he forced a sitting President of the United States to do something he did not want to do.

Birther Issue Dogs Obama Reelection Campaign

In my mind, there is no doubt that President Barack Obama was born in the United States of America. However, now that Donald Trump is seeking the GOP nomination for President - he is using innuendo to create doubt in the minds of Americans about the birth statues of President Obama. The US Constitution requires that a man or woman who runs of our nations highest office be a natural born citizen. Some members of the GOP have been saying for years now that President Obama was not born in the USA and I believe all of these attacks on Obama's citizenship are nothing more then a new way to dislike the President because of his race and/or religion.

Frankly, I thought all of this birther mess had come and gone to the public's satisfaction a long time ago. However, GOP candidates for President seem to be trying to find a way to win next time through default - so I guess this is the best thing they can come up with at this time. On Tuesday, at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C., a 737 jet carrying the First Lady was told to abort it's landing. What happened was an air traffic controller mess up - because there was not enough space between the plane carrying Michelle Obama and a military plane that landed right before her jet.

There were no injuries and all that really happened was that Michelle Obama's jet was delayed a short time before it finally landed without incident. More than likely, today's miscommunications at Andrews Air Force Base would not have even made news - except for the fact that the FAA has been condemned recently, because air traffic controllers have been sleeping on the job.

A reporter from the Dallas/Fort Worth area traveled to Washington to conduct the interview. However, I did not think he came across as "thin skinned".

Civil rights groups, democratic leaders and some GOP members have denounced the photo. In fact, many leaders are calling on Davenport to resign her position. This one example is proof that some members of the "Tea Party" are trying to bring President Obama down not by exposing his stand on the issues, but instead by calling negative attention to and ridiculing his racial heritage.

It's a never ending task being the President of the United States (POTUS) as Barack Obama faces a new problem as reports surface that more FAA Air Traffic Controllers have allegedly fallen asleep on the job. To make matters worse, some controllers are now claiming that it's normal for them to take naps while pilots and travelers in the air are under their direction.

This issue reminds me of the now famous Ronald Reagan showdown with air traffic controllers back in the early 1980's. Back then, it was a union strike that lead to a presidential showdown and eventual termination of almost all Air Traffic Controllers. It will be interesting to see how President Obama deals with this latest FAA problem. I'm sure this is not a battle he wanted to fight.

Right now, the GOP only wants spending cuts - while Democrats are urging that both tax increases and spending cuts are on the table. On this issue, the Democrats are right - but will they have the guts to stick to their principles? I have my doubts.

Folks, the US is in bad financial shape and both spending cuts and tax increases are needed to address the problem. I see no reason to believe that anyone was tricked by anyone else in Washington. It's difficult to know, at this time, which way this complicated issue will be decided in the US Supreme Court. Liberals are completely in favor of POTUS Obama's health care reform law and would prefer that it go even further by mandating a government run insurance option. Conservatives, on the other hand, are completely against any type of government run health care changes, especially ones that force all Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a fine.

Public opinion polls say that the American people are evenly divided on this issue, with independent voters leaning toward the conservative argument against health care reform. The answer to improving health care is found somewhere in the middle between the liberal and the conservative points of view. Sadly, political moderation is in short supply in the United States of America right now – so extremist on both the left and right are allowed to blame each other for a mess that was created by both. Neither Republicans or Democrats want to deal with the real issues of health care reform, so they continue to hold on to old talking points that win votes on Election Day, but fall short of creating a real solution to the problem.

Most nations, who have adopted a government run health care system, have found themselves going broke - because of inefficiencies. On the other hand, the current US health care system is totally controlled by insurance companies who ration care and reward doctors who are more interested in profit than in their patients. What is really needed in the US health care system is more government regulation of doctors and insurance companies and not a complete government take over of the current health care system. Republicans are against more regulation of doctors and insurance companies, so they will fight any effort by Democrats to increase oversight. However, Democrats seem to be more interested in putting insurance companies out-of-business than in making sure that Americans continue to receive the best health care in the world.

Both President Obama and GOP leaders are right and wrong in their approach to health care reform. Over the next few months, we will see if real compromise is even possible.

In a few weeks, dozens of new GOP Members of Congress will be sworn into office and at that time all Americans will learn if a new sense of cooperation between President Obama and the GOP will have any real staying power. During the final two weeks of the 2010 legislative session of Congress, President Obama and GOP leaders were falling all over themselves trying to prove to the American people that they could not only get along - but get things done, as well. However, while most Americans tell pollsters that they want Republicans and Democrats to get along - when it comes to Election Day, it is usually the die-hard ideologues who show up at the polls to vote.

That is the reason I believe POTUS Obama and the GOP may have already finished their honeymoon period and that means that by the end of this month, business as usual will again be alive and well in our nations capital. The differences between President Obama's liberal leanings and the conservative views of most members of the GOP are like the difference in day and night. When you add that already explosive mixture to the extreme conservative views of the "Tea Party", there will likely be no real and meaningful work getting done in Washington D.C over the next two years. The real issue facing the long term financial strength of the United States is our ever growing federal deficit and sadly, the petty differences between Democrats and Republicans will make it unlikely that major issue will be dealt with in a reasonable way.

The first and number one issue for conservative Republicans is finding a way to either repeal or kill health care changes, which are now referred to as "Obama Care". There is no way on Earth that President Obama will allow the centerpiece of his domestic agenda to be destroyed by the GOP, so in the end nothing but promises will be made by the Republicans when it comes to the repeal of "Obama Care" and by the time congressional elections happen again in 2012, much of "Obama Care" will be funded and a part of most Americans lives. There are real differences between the liberal and conservative views of America and those differences are not going to fade away just because of a two week honeymoon period that ended shortly before Christmas of 2010.

Late on Thursday, the US House of Representatives finally voted to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for another two years, intact. This final passage of a President Obama and GOP leadership deal remained uncertain until the last minute. Political pundit have said for days that when push came to shove, liberals in the US House of Representatives would fold and in the end those pundits were correct. The biggest winner in this new deal between President Barack Obama and GOP leaders is most definitely President Obama. For the past two years, POTUS Obama has lead in a very left wing way and during that period of time his public approval numbers have taken a nose dive.

Now, taking a page from President Bill Clinton's playbook, President Obama is rushing to the political center in order to win reelection in 2012. It has been common knowledge that a left leaning President of the United States has no chance at getting reelected unless he is a true and real centrist. In my opinion, President Obama will not only move to the center politically over the next two years - but he will even start to look and talk like a Republican before the primaries of the 2012 election campaign even get started. This move to the center right by President Barack Obama will probably cause someone on the far left to challenge him for the 2012 Democratic Nomination, but that effort will fail. We saw this same type of thing happen when President Jimmy Carter ran for reelection many years ago.

While some on the liberal far left believe that President Obama has sold his soul to the GOP, I believe he was not only a winner this week with his tax compromise with the GOP - but he will go into next year with a stronger negotiating position as well. Only in a few states and congressional districts nationwide do old style liberal politics carry a winning percentage on Election Day. The further President Obama went to the political left during his first two years, the lower his public approval numbers sank. As the GOP takes over control of the US House of Representatives next year, expect President Obama's public approval number to start to rise once again. Only a die-hard liberal ideologue would believe that President Obama was weaken by his tax deal with the GOP. In reality, he took the first step toward assuring his reelection chances in 2012.

President Barack Obama is finding out the hard way that it's a tough road when the leader of one political party decides to compromise with the other, while many in the rank and file of his own party wanted him to stand-up and fight. To say that mainstream liberals in the Democratic Party are angry with President Obama today would be a huge understatement. However, after the massive losses POTUS Obama's party took in the elections last November, he did not have a good hand to play in December and his political hand will be even worse in January. I believe President Obama made the best deal he could and while extremist on the far left will never be satisfied with comprising ever with Republicans, in the end it is President Obama who won the day.

Few liberals believe in the idea of supply side economics, but I do believe there are principles in that thinking - which could help improve the US economy and help the current unemployment situation before President Obama runs for reelection in 2012. Sadly, too many democratic liberals ignored the November elections and just expected President Obama to go on with "business as usual" in the White House. That type of thinking would not only be political suicide for President Obama, but many Democrats in Congress too. What good is a political party that stands only for ideology, when most American voters have turned their backs on their ideas? Only a fool would continue down a road that voters had just rejected and arrogantly decide that the will of the American people did not mean anything to the President of the United States.

As President Obama said yesterday, there will still be many fights to come with the Republicans and how he negotiates with them will determine - if he has a chance to win reelection in 2012. Most pundits on television today said they believe that President Obama will have a primary challenge leading up to the 2012 presidential elections. To that I say, bring it on. When it comes to any US presidential election, a candidate that believes a far left agenda will win nationwide in the United States is destined for disappointment. President Obama did his best for the liberal agenda during his first two years. Now, like Bill Clinton before him, he will be forced to compromise and move his agenda more toward the American political center.

Over the past two years, I have gone from a Barack Obama supporter to a less than enthusiastic fan. However, today when I found out that Elizabeth Edwards was going to die within the next few weeks from cancer - I found myself feeling much more comfortable with my vote for President Obama. In my 52 years on this Earth, I have never seen a more despicable candidate for President of the United States as former Senator John Edwards. Members of the Bar in all 50 states should curse this one man (John Edwards), who did more to damage the image of their profession than any living person on the face of the Earth. I am on record as believing that Elizabeth Edwards was complicit in covering up her husbands affair, but she darn sure did not encourage it.

Last night - most TV channels, both cable and broadcast, reported the news that Elizabeth Edwards had stopped her cancer treatments, because her doctors said they were no longer working. A spokesman for the family said that Elizabeth Edwards was resting comfortably and not currently suffering any pain. That same statement said that her husband John and her children were at her side during the last few days of her life. I will say this for Elizabeth Edwards, she has more class than I do - because the last person I would want at my side during the last few hours of my life would be her no good and lying husband John Edwards. I have thought for a long time now that he (John Edwards) was just counting the days till his wife passed away, so he could take his old kids and merge them with the new one and get on with the rest of his life with a new wife.

I shutter at the though that John Edwards might have been elected as President of the United States. Thank goodness, President Obama took the wind out of his sails early enough to prevent a total creep and liar from becoming our nations President. We all knew the day would come when Elizabeth Edwards would take her last breath, because she has been fighting cancer for much of her adult life. In my opinion, former Senator John Edwards is about to lose the only grown up he has ever had in his life and his future with a new woman and family will never live up to what Elizabeth provided him when he had the world by the tail, but decided to throw it all away. The sad story of John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth should remind us all about the lengths some people will go to just to have power over others.

However, so far, President Obama has been holding strong to his belief that millionaires and billionaires do not deserve to continue to pay a lower rate in US federal income taxes going into the years to come. The truth is that all Americans will be paying higher taxes in the future, because of "run away" government spending and because entitlements in Social Security, Medicare and increasing costs from the military - are causing the US to drown in red ink.

Both Republicans and Democrats learned long ago, that if they want to get reelected, they must pander to the wishes of a large portion of the US population - who do not want any new tax increases from Washington and who also never want the government to quit paying them entitlements. The amount of US federal government spending from the Obama administration and President's before, have caused the US federal government debt to mushroom to the point where it is no long sustainable. In our personal lives we have heard the saying "tough love" and when that saying is used - we know that usually it revolves around a child that will not grow up. Sadly, in America today - there are fully grown citizens who do not want to have their taxes increased and others who cannot remove themselves from government supported entitlement programs.

The financial road ahead, in the United States, is going to be a painful path indeed. Not only will the rich be forced to pay higher taxes, but tax increases on the middle class will be required, as well. Also, years of "pie in the sky" promises made by career politicians in Washington D.C. will be forced to be broken - as entitlements must be reworked, to prevent the nation from falling into bankruptcy. There are many more reasons why President Obama does not want to extend tax cuts for the richest of Americans and while some of those reasons do include a certain amount of old fashion democratic class envy, a small part of his reasoning has to do with the financial sustainability of the United States of America going forward into future years.

There are many different terms used in politics today and one of them is "lame duck". Usually, the term "Lame duck" refers to a President of the United States who is either taken out of the loop of power in Washington D.C. because he or she cannot run for reelection again or because he or she has lost too many members of their own political party in the Congress to be an effective leader. From a purely number of laws passed during his first two years standpoint, President Obama would be considered a successful leader. Most of the pundits on TV are proclaiming that the only things that is driving voters to the GOP during the 2010 midterm elections are the poor economy and a high unemployment rate. While jobs are usually one of the main reasons why voters turn from one political party to another - in 2010 there is more to the story. While POTUS Obama and leaders in the Democratic Party continue to put a strong "game face" on this November's elections, the truth is that there is little if anything they can do to stop the tidal-wave of anti-incumbent anger flowing through the American population right now. In my opinion, the best hope for President Obama and Democrats this November will come if the GOP gets over confident and starts making stupid mistakes in the days leading up to election day.

Over confidence is a killer in politics. Almost everyone has known a candidate or party at some point in the past who seemed to be destined for victory, but who does something so self destructive right before an election that they snatch defeat from the arms of victory. That same type of thing could happen to the GOP in the weeks leading up to the 2010 elections. Mind you, it would take something huge to turn already committed voters away from the polls - but the GOP could do something that might motivate Democratic voters to the polls and that would have the same result.

If and when that happens, Obama is likely to become a lamb duck in record time. It is true that many long shot "Tea Party" candidate have been successful in primaries running up to this November's elections, but I believe it's premature to even suggest that voter support for the "Tea Party" will help POTUS Obama and Democrats this year.

While it's easy for both Republicans and Democrats to marginalize "Tea Party" voters as nothing more than "wing nuts", in reality - most of the people who have joined the "Tea Party" movement are folks who have just given up on politics as usual in both the Republican and Democratic Party's. Both the power-base in the GOP and the Democratic Party's should be equally concerned that this grass roots movement will hurt them equally. Democratic leaders in the Congress from both major political party's and President Obama have completely lost touch with average Americans and there will be a huge price paid by both in November.

The one thing members of all of the national and local "Tea Party" groups have in common is a desire to see "runaway spending" stopped in Washington D.C.. While Republicans are talking a good game right now about how they will gain control over excessive spending in Washington, almost no one believes a word they are saying - because of their own actions when President George W. For most Americans, we thought that using class warfare to win elections was a thing of the past - but it appears that President Barack Obama still believes that it is alive and well in the United States. It seems like the longer President Barack Obama is in office, the more Americans believe that he is not a Christian as he claims - but a Muslim. Frankly, all this talk about whether or not President Obama is a Christian or a Muslim does not bother me that much - but for some Christians it seems to be the number one issue as to why they do not like him. What I believe is going on here is nothing more than most of the American people putting their anger at how slow the economy is improving on the back of President Obama and with that level of anger, some people lose all ability to use common sense.

It's not all the fault of the American people, because our elected leaders are experts at taking our greatest fears and finding someone prominent to blame them on. Now, two years later, the Republicans are doing the same thing to President Barack Obama now that his public approval has dropped below 50%. It is no secret that President Barack Obama and his family love to take vacations, but the past month has shown some surprising choices in where they decide to go. For the past week, President Obama and his family have been vacationing on Martha's Vineyard along with many other people who are referred to as the "rich and famous". Then next week, President Obama is heading to the City of New Orleans for the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Already, many people have accused President Obama of vacationing too much during his short time in office. I wrote here about one week ago about how President Obama had become worse than President George W. Bush in record time. It's common knowledge that politician lie when they are running for public office, but POTUS Obama is racking up even more lies than his predecessor George W. Bush. To me, it was always one thing when President George W. Bush would vacation in the heat of August in Crawford, Texas and something else entirely when President Obama made the choice to take his family as far away as possible during the recent Gulf oil spill. Maybe President Obama mistakenly thought that if he just showed up every now and then on the Gulf of Mexico coastline, the voters down there and elsewhere would cut him some slack?

The days when President Obama could depend on voters to look the other way when it comes to his agenda are over. When President George W. Bush was the leader of the United States of America it took until the last part of his second term for most American to lose faith in his leadership ability. However, in less that two years, most people have lost faith in POTUS Obama to the point where they not only would not vote for him anymore, but they are ready to throw his supporters in the Congress out the door in November, as well. For a man who ran for office claiming to be a moderate candidate for the people, President Barack Obama has turned out to be an "elitist" and his dropping poll numbers suggest that the American people view him as a "one term" President of the United States. It's not just a health care reform law that the public did not want that has turned voters against President Obama, but the fact that he seems to vacation more than any President in modern history is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of voters.

No one enjoys a much needed vacation more than I do, but President Obama seems to show up on the news talking about sacrifice all the time when he meets with reporters and then the next thing voters back home see is him vacationing at some "high roller" location shortly thereafter. If it's possible for a President of the United States to have lost touch with the American people faster than President George W. Bush, that person has to be President Barack Obama. After eight long years of President George W. Bush in the White House, I made the choice to leave my former GOP roots behind and take a chance on a President Barack Obama vote.

I must admit that President Obama fooled me with his moderate political speeches during his 2008 campaign and some of you might feel the same way. President George W. Bush fooled me as well when he ran as a fiscal conservative and then after 911 turned his back on those conservative ideas and principles and became just another big spending Washington politician. So where do the American people turn now that both Democrats and Republicans are basically the same when it comes to spending our tax money? The only viable opinion I can think of is to pray that a third party that can win somehow presents itself to the American people. President Barack Obama's public approval rating continues to drop and it appears that the decisions he is making will not stop that erosion of support for his presidency. Like millions of other Americans, I supported President Obama when he ran for President of the United States back in 2008. The main reason for my support was, that at the time, he (President Obama) pledged to lead this nation as a true moderate. However, it did not take long after being elected before he became just another liberal democrat on almost every single issue.

If you look closely at the deterioration of President Obama's public approval ratings, the biggest drop is among independent voters. Republican's continue to disapprove of almost everything President Obama does, while Democrats think he is the best thing since sliced bread. Over the past decade, the numbers of voters who call themselves independent has grown dramatically and I expect that trend to continue. Both the GOP and Democratic Party have allowed themselves to drift completely to the outer fringe of the right and left and as that has happened - most moderate thinking Americans have become independents.

I believe most independent voters feel lied to by President Obama and if that assumption on my part is correct, it will be difficult for him to win them back when he runs for reelection in 2012. In the mean time, congressional elections are being held this November and every poll I have read shows that President Obama's democratic party will suffer major losses once election day rolls around. With the exception of extremist from the right and left, most American's do not believe there is much difference between Republicans and Democrats in Washington. Sure, the GOP will win big in November - but what difference will that really make?

Since that time, the President has drifted more to the political left in his thinking and at this moment in time it's impossible to guess what President Obama really thinks.

While political pundits will argue as to what President Obama really believes when it comes to gay marriage and what the political consequences might be of that position, in reality - it does not matter what the President of the United States or anyone else outside of the federal court system really thinks or believes at this time. The path toward an ultimate Supreme Court battle will decide this issue once and for all over the next two to three years, which means that the politicians are out of this battle for the most part and the core issue will be decided in the US Supreme Court.

Even though the real power of whether or not gay marriage will become the law of the land or not will not stop politicians from continuing to use this one issue to scare people to the polls in November - who have strong opinions on both sides of the issue. Sadly, the American political system is more driven by one sides need to stop gay marriage at all costs and the other sides need to see in as a right in all 50 states. Has anyone noticed that the country is in a real mess right now and we are facing a bleak economy for years to come? Rather than tackling real issues that effect all Americans, our political leaders from both party's are busy trying to get Americans with differing opinions of gay marriage to hate each other for partisan reasons.

At times like these I always think back to the simple words of a victim of violent crime in California years ago by the name of Rodney King. I remember his words today as clearly as when he said them back then - "can't we all just get along"?

The news media is filled with stories about how President Barack Obama will be a drag on Democrats during congressional elections this November. So, is President Obama a pro or a con for democratic candidates? I think that it depends on where the candidate for Congress is located as to whether or not President Obama will make a positive or negative impact. In many parts of the northeast and in most of areas of California - there is still wide support for President Obama.

In other areas though, President Obama is not well liked at all. The south is a place where President Obama would not help democratic candidates get elected. In fact, when President Obama was in Texas earlier this week - the man running to unseat GOP Gov. Rick Perry was on the other side of the state when President Obama visited. It's hard to blame that candidate "Bill White", because President Obama is not popular at all in the State of Texas.

In addition to Texas, other states like Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana are not places where President Obama would help democratic candidates during this falls general elections. Most likely, President Obama will stick to democratic and liberal strongholds in New York and California when it comes to assisting candidates this November, while staying as far away as possible from the deep south and Texas.

The place where President Obama can and will do the most good for democratic candidates for Congress is in the fund raising category. Even during bad times, few people have the ability to raise as much money for political purposes than a sitting President of the United States. My feeling is that Democrats will lose badly this fall in congressional elections no matter how much or how little President Obama campaigns for various Members of Congress.

The past couple of days, the President of the United States Barack Obama has been in Texas to raise money for democratic candidates ahead of this Novembers general election. While GOP Governor Rick Perry met President Obama at the airport in Austin a few days ago, most Democrats who are running for statewide office managed to be "out of town" when the President showed up.

President Obama and everyone that follows politics knows that Texas is GOP country and has been that way since Ronald Reagan first ran for President and lost to Gerald Ford decades ago. The only reason President Obama is in Texas this week is to raise much needed campaign funds for candidates who don't even want to be seen in his company.

While the prospects for democratic candidates nationwide do not appear promising at this time, in Texas - it would take a major miracle for any Democrat to win statewide office in 2010. Unlike, 2008 - when then candidate Obama used his popular coat-tails to help Democrats win offices in Washington and around the country, the political winds have changed over the past two years to the point where in some locations - President Obama is viewed by some democratic candidates to be more of a liability than a benefit.

Once President Obama's fund raising efforts in Texas are over, I expect he will leave the state and not return until after election day. It was surprising to me that when President Obama visited Texas this week, it was Republicans that welcomed him and not Democrats. Gov. Rick Perry made it clear to President Obama that border security in Texas was the number one issue on voters minds - when sadly it appears to be the last thing on the mind of the President.

There are always far right conservatives criticizing everything that President Obama and his family does, but over the weekend there were some voices even in the Democratic Party who were questioning the wisdom of First Lady Michelle Obama's lavish trip to Spain.

Personally, I have no problem with Michelle Obama vacationing in Spain or anywhere else for that matter - but when you add an ever deepening recession to that mix - the judgment of President Obama and his staff when it comes to the timing of this trip must be questioned.

It's not just the millions of Americans who are out of work at this time that shows administration poor judgment in allowing this Michelle Obama's trip to Spain - but there are still millions of people along the Gulf of Mexico coastline who will be suffering for years, because of the BP oil spill, which many believe was messed up by the Obama administration from the very start.

I know the families of President Bush and Clinton before him took lavish trips during times of national pain, but right now Democrats in Congress are at risk of losing not only their majorities in November - but the good will of the American people, which might last for a decade or more.

So, was it wrong for Michelle Obama to take her trip to Spain? No, it was not. However, the wisdom of allowing this trip at this time - needs to be questioned by everyone in the Obama administration, including the President of the United States.

Most political experts have stated for years that Ron Paul does not have a chance to become President of the United States, because he cannot win the Republican nomination. Ron Paul is not a conservative and in recent times, only hard core conservatives win GOP nominations for President.

Almost everyone on television is claiming that President Barack Obama will take down Democrats during this November's congressional elections. Are these experts right or wrong? Well, it's pretty well certain that if congressional elections were held today - the Democratic Party would likely lose not only the U.S. House of Representatives, but the U.S. Senate as well. However, today is not election day and the number of events and happening around the world that will take place between now and November will effect what the voters say the next time they get a chance to judge the Congress and President Obama at the polls.

If nothing changes in the world, which is highly unlikely, then President Obama will indeed have caused his own Democratic Party to self destruct in only two short years. However, there are two very important things that could turn the 2010 congressional elections on their ear and they are #1. A terrorist attack on the U.S. homeland and #2. "President Obama Bows To Another World Leader." During the first year that Barack Obama served as President of the United States, he seemed to be bowing to foreign heads of state and the royalty of some nations as he made his travels around the world. During that period of time, I did not understand why President Obama was bowing to all of these leaders - but I decided to cut him some slack because he was new to his office. Then I learn that today, President Obama bowed once again to the head of state in China and from my point of view - enough is enough with all this bowing to leaders of other countries, many of whom do not even like the United States of America.

One thing is for sure and that is few if any foreign heads of state or royalty are returning the bow to President Obama, so why does he keep wanting to bow his head every time he engages with a leader of another country? I know financial times are bad in the U.S. right now, but many other nations around the world are in much worse shape than we are. I fail to understand what if anything President Obama intends to accomplish by bowing his head to some leaders of the world that are nothing more than totalitarian dictators in their own country. Doesn't President Obama know what kind of signal that sends to leaders that do not understand anything except brute force when it comes to running their own countries?

With the exception of health care reform, I agree with many of the ideas and principles President Obama has been trying to accomplish as our President. However, I hate to see him travel abroad because I am so afraid that he is going to embarrass the people of the United States of America again by bowing to another wold leader. In the past there has been a protocol department in the White House that guides our President's into not doing something silly or stupid when they travel to nations around the world. Most certainly, it is not encouraged by U.S. protocol for the President of the United States to bow his head to any foreign leader when they represent our country by traveling abroad.

“POTUS/Democrats push health care few Americans like.” In what has turned out to be one of the biggest political blunders in modern U.S. history, POTUS Obama and Democrats in the Congress are “hell bent” on passing health care reform - even when it is clear that most Americans do not like what is being offered to them. Most democratic leaders believe that once they pass health care reform - soon thereafter, the American people will start to support it too. However, POTUS Obama and his democratic friends on Capital Hill are risking their future as a major U.S. political party on that outcome and I'm not so sure they are correct in their wisdom.

When President George W. Bush left office about one year ago, he had managed to anger both liberals and conservatives alike with his brand of “in your face” politics. Now, POTUS Obama is risking that same negative political consequence with his presidency – but with one major difference. It took POTUS Bush almost eight years to make the American people so angry with him that they voted for a Democratic President of the United States. However, if current polling trends continue, POTUS Obama will anger just as many American voters as POTUS Bush did in only two short years and his unpopular plan for health care reform will be the catalyst.

Right now, I and most Americans still like POTUS Obama on a personal level. Back when POTUS Bush started his second term as President of the United States – most people still like him as an individual, as well. The main things that brought the political fortunes of POTUS Bush down will do the same thing to POTUS Obama - if he continues to push an unpopular ideology that most Americans reject. With POTUS Bush it was a far right wing ideology that eventually lead to his leadership demise. With POTUS Obama, U.S. health care reform could wipe out all of his political capital – while at the same time doing little to nothing to change the way health care is practiced and paid for in the United States of America.

“Haiti disaster big challenge for POTUS Obama.” No person with any level of human compassion could watch the events of the past few days, on television, coming out of Haiti with anything less that a sense of horror at the human suffering and the massive loss of life that has surrounded that nation ever since an Earthquake leveled most of the country about three days ago. POTUS Obama was quick to offer relief to Haiti and he has also appointed former President's Bill Clinton and George W. Bush to head up the U.S. humanitarian effort to find the living and bury the death – which could number in the hundreds of thousands.

While POTUS Obama is doing the right thing by calling on all Americans to do their part in contributing to the people of Haiti in their time of need, some members of the news media like Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann have taken the natural disaster tragedy in Haiti and tried to politicize it for their own selfish gain. First, Rush Limbaugh made a statement on his nationwide radio show calling on Americans not to give to relief efforts in Haiti - which are managed through the White House website and then Keith Olbermann tried to push health care reform in the United States by asking the question, “how would Americans pay for a disaster like this one right here at home without nationalized health care”? Before both of these crazy political radicals made their on-air statements, the even crazier Pat Robertson said on his conservative religious TV show that the people of Haiti had made a “deal with the devil” in the past and that is why so many bad things are happening to them right now.

Folks, all this political non sense must come to an end. The American people are the most giving folks in the world and I have no doubt that when all is said and done – most Americans will follow POTUS Obama's lead and do what they can to help the people of Haiti. While growing up, my mother always said one thing to me when disasters like the Haiti Earthquake occurred, she would tell me - “there but for the grace of God, go I”. I have never forgot those words of wisdom and right now I hope everyone will remember my moms words when they open up their checkbooks to give much needed money to the people of Haiti.

POTUS Obama is discovering the hard way that when bad stuff happens to the United States of America - most people will blame the President of the United States no matter which political party he came from. In recent days, POTUS Obama has been once again blaming many of the problems that have occurred during his watch on former POTUS Bush. Blaming ones predecessor has always been common with brand new President's, but just in case POTUS Obama has not noticed yet - he soon will have been our leader for one full year, so the time has come for him to stop blaming POTUS Bush for problems and issues that he now owns fair and square.

While most Americans believed that POTUS Bush spent too much time focusing on international terrorism, today most of those same Americans are wishing that POTUS Obama would spend more time on that important issue. On Christmas Day, a terrorist tried to bring down an American jet aircraft over Detroit. At that time, President Obama was on a holiday with his family in Hawaii - which he did not cancel when our nation came under attack. Then when POTUS Obama returned from his holiday vacation, he gave one speech about how he was to blame for the problem and then within hours he went back to talking about passing health care reform in the U.S. Congress. Sadly, it appears that POTUS Obama does not want to talk about terrorist attacks against the Homeland and that fact scares the hell out of me.

I hope that it does not take a successful terrorist attack against the United States of America before POTUS Obama starts to take this issue seriously. All Americans know that there are people and groups around the world who want to destroy our great nation. What good is health care reform when it's primary use might be to sew up injured Americans after the next major terrorist attack against our country? While I disagree with POTUS Obama on some of his issues, I still personally like the man. However, the time has come for POTUS Obama to treat terrorist acts against the United States with the attention they deserve and I hope he does that before some terrorist nut kills a bunch of American citizens.

“Will POTUS Obama pass first terrorist test?” It's too early to say for sure, but he seems to make making all the right moves so far. As most people have already heard, a single terrorist from Yemen tried to blow up a jet aircraft on Christmas Day over the City of Detroit. Sooner or later, everyone knew that POTUS Obama would be forced to deal with a terrorist(s) who wanted to do harm to the people of the United States of America and less than one year into his presidency – POTUS Obama has found himself with the first of many test that will judge his ability to keep the United States of America safe from terrorist who wish to destroy our way of life.

While this lone terrorist was flying into Detroit and attempting to bring down a large jet over a major U.S. city, POTUS Obama was spending his Christmas vacation in Hawaii with his family. Within hours of the news breaking that a terrorist tried to blow up a jet over the United States, POTUS Obama was already looking into how and why this guy was allowed to fly into the United States in the first place. While this lone terrorist was on the radar screen of U.S. intelligence agencies, apparently he was not place on the American “do not fly list” - which seems like a huge mistake on my part, at least at this early stage of the investigation. While many Americans have agreed, early on, with the domestic agenda of POTUS Barack Obama – when it comes to national defense issues, both Democrats and Republicans have been equally concerned about how he would handle a national security crisis?

Over the next few weeks and months, the American people will have their first look at how POTUS Obama will handled not only a terrorist attack against the United States of America – but we will also see how he treats the alleged terrorist that tried to kill hundreds of Americans on Christmas Day 2009. Will POTUS Obama be soft on terrorist or will he turn out to be just as tough on them as his predecessor POTUS George W. Bush? POTUS Obama is learning first hand that is it much easier to promise things in a national campaign than it is to deliver on those same promises after being elected as the President of the United States. After almost a year, POTUS Obama has proven to most Americans that he is a liberal when it comes to domestic issues – the next question I have is, “will POTUS Obama turn out to be a liberal on terrorism as well, or will he have his own take on what is the best way to protect the American people from terrorists who wish to do us harm?”

“Obama health care bill right for America?” I think the answer is yes. Finally, both conservatives and liberals alike hate what the U.S. Senate has done to health care reform – so from my moderate point of view, Obama health care is probably exactly what the American people need at this time. For far too long, extremists on the right and the left in American politics have acted like spoiled children in a sandbox when it comes to getting their own way in Congress. In the beginning of this latest U.S. health care debate, a few months ago, all liberals loved what was happening and all conservatives hated it.

Now however, extreme liberals and conservatives think that the health care reform bill that will soon be voted on by the U.S. Senate is a piece of crap – so that should give most of the people who are moderate Americans hope that health care reform, the way it is written right now in the Senate, could be the best thing that has happened for this country in a long time. For way too many years, the extremes of the right and the left have ruled this great nation with a narrow view of what is good and bad for the rest of us. Whether it was true conservatism under President George W. Bush or the extreme liberalism of people like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi – most Americans are not served well by either extreme political ideology.

During this whole health care reform debate, President Barack Obama has stayed on the sidelines and let Congress work through the tough issues all on it's own. At first, I thought that decision by President Obama was a mistake – but in hindsight, it could have been the only way anything approaching health care reform had a possibility of passing the Congress. While extreme conservatives and liberals have expressed their anger at what health care reform now looks like in the U.S. Senate, for the rest of us that don't want to wear labels like a conservative or liberal American - could finally win a battle in the Halls of Congress. Time will tell if Obama health care is really a good thing or not. However, at this point in time – I am encouraged that conservatives and liberals alike hate the health care reform bill, as it is currently written in the U.S. Senate.

Just like when President Bill Clinton tried to force health care reform on the American people over a decade ago, President Barack Obama's public approval numbers are dropping like a rock. Why President Clinton before and now President Obama after don't understand that the American people do not want government run health care is beyond me. Having the government make the payments for health care and also make the choices of what medical procedures are covered under insurance has been a sticky subject to say the least for Democrats for years. What is really behind the nationalization of health care in the United States has less to do with doing the right thing and much more to do with political power.

When President Barack Obama was first elected, I and millions of other Americans had high hopes for his new vision for the United States of America. However, as President Obama has continually spent most of his political capital in recent months on health care reform that mandates a government option - I and many other Americans have started to question his wisdom into what is really involved in this change from a foundational standpoint. Sure, it is wrong that millions of people in the United States do not have access to affordable insurance, but is the real solution to that problem the government beginning it's first steps toward taking over all medical care in the form of a government run health insurance option?

Sadly, the United States of America political scene is now completely controlled by liberal and conservative ideology's that cannot or will not adapt their extremist ways to reflect what the American people want to do when it comes to health care insurance reform. Just like what has been the case now for decades, political liberals cannot accept that private insurance serves a purpose in today's health care debate, while at the same time U.S. conservatives have no faith whatsoever when it comes to government managed health care reform. Both political extremest have turned the issue of health care reform into an ideological discussion that closely resembles the pro-life and pro-choice debate we have all witnessed now for the past 20 years.

At the end of the day, I believe there will be a health care reform law that will be passed by the Congress and signed by President Obama. There is just too much potential political damage likely to occur - if the democratic party as a whole now packs up their tents and goes home without some kind of health care reform in 2009. I believe that Obama health care would pass in a New York minute, if the government run public option were taken off the table. However, just like in times past - new legislation in Washington D.C. has much less to do with the common good than it does with politicians fulfilling their number one goal and that is winning reelection.

Critics of President Barack Obama have been saying for weeks that he is trying to change too many things over too short of a period of time. So, is President Obama trying to change too many things in the U.S. too quickly or is he doing the right thing and does not care what his GOP critics think about his decisions?

While I have been and continue to support President Obama, I do believe that he is trying to change too many things to quickly for our nations overall good. There is no doubt that most Americans who voted for President Obama did so because they hoped that he could get control over a bad economy and quickly turn things around.

Of course, the U.S. economy was in terrible shape long before President Obama was elected and only a fool could or would believe that any new President could fix all those problems in a matter of weeks, instead of months and years. The biggest problem President Obama faces is the pro spending/anti saving mind set of the American people.

I know it seems boring, but the truth is that unless the American people learn to save money like our ancestors did decades ago - no President of the United States will be able to save us from ourselves for long. Since World War II, our government has taught us to spend for today and let them worry about tomorrow. Now there is no tomorrow for most young and middle aged Americans, so we must learn from history and take care of ourselves.

It was learned late last night that the Obama administration is going to play hardball with the CEO's of Detroit's big three automakers, if those companies want additional taxpayer funds in order to survive. It's about time that the US government required these three companies to remove their top executives who were mainly responsible for the demise of their own companies.

By forcing GM, Ford and Chrysler to possibly seek bankruptcy protection in order to receive more taxpayer bailout money, the Obama administration is making it clear that new funds will be tied to reworking union contracts that were written back during the days of high profitability. The latest requirement that GM's CEO must step down is a signal that President Obama is not going reward the people at the top, while at the same time taking away pay and benefits from the rank and file.

In the end, I'm not sure all of the big three US automobile companies will survive and maybe that is just the way this whole thing has to work itself out for the future. Between greed on Wall Street and the endless marketing games of Detroit's big three to sell low quality cars to the American public - it's no wonder that our nation finds itself in a financial crisis at this time.

Growing Up In The White House Must Be Hard For Obama's Girls

A couple of weeks ago, I watched a television interview with POTUS Obama on '60 Minutes' from the White House. When that interview was conducted - President Obama was showing the CBS reporter around the White House grounds, which included a pretty nice swing set that was donated by someone for Barack and Michele Obama's children to use while living there.

That TV interview with Barack Obama got me thinking about how hard it really must be to raise young girls in the bubble of the White House. Most kids just want to be like everyone else, but when you are a daughter of the President of the United States that is all but impossible.

I'm sure that the Obama's will do their best to raise their children as normal as possible for the next four and maybe eight years in the White House. However - let's face it, that kind of life is much harder on children than adults and my guess is there will be many family arguments to come because of things the Obama girls want to do, which cannot be allowed because of security concerns.

While I am on record as supporting most of the actions that POTUS Obama is taking right now to help the short term interests of the US economy, in the end - all President Obama is accomplishing is to further kick the can of US debt down the road for someone else to have to pay in the future.

I really believe that the way the current US economy is set up, there is no way for it to continue to grow well into the future, unless US citizens quit spending so much money and start to save money like we did in generation past.

The easy attainability of credit for most Americans has caused the price of all high ticket items to grow faster than the rate of wage increases. That type of system cannot survive over the long haul and it is the main reason why a few get very rich, while most Americans are living a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.

Right now, most Americans are witnessing the beginning of the end in extremist politics in the United States of America. For decades, political partisans from the extreme left and right have fought against each other in open warfare for the vast majority of Americans who are politically moderate. In the future, it will be moderate Americans that will decide whether the US moves to the right or the left and not right and left wing nut cases.

It is the nature of politics for government control to move from one extreme position to the other - but throughout history, eventually, cooler heads will prevail and a more moderate tone will come to US government leadership.

I believe POTUS Obama is the right man, at the right time, to lead this country into a moderate future. However, the powers that be on the far right and left will not go quietly into the night and there will be huge battles to come because extremist don't know how to get along with people who they disagree with.

The United States is in a sad state of affairs when a well known radio commentator by the name of Rush Limbaugh tells millions of people on his radio show that he wants President Barack Obama to fail. Bitter partisanship has been alive and well in Washington for decades and Rush Limbaugh has just taking the negative political discourse to a new level.

I really believe that over the next 10 years, extremist like Rush Limbaugh on the far right, along with extremist liberals on the left will find that their power based is dwindling away. A happy and productive United States of America is built around moderation of different views and not on the destruction of your political enemies.

To me, POTUS Obama is a moderate American leader whose political ideas have been twisted into something they are not by Rush Limbaugh. While I believe Mr. Limbaugh and opposites from him on the left have the right to say whatever they believe, for most Americans the days of disliking people just because of their political ideology are starting to fade away.

The biggest problem with liberalism is that it causes some people to decided that it is in their own best interest to stay at home and unemployed, if the government will pay for their everyday needs. I call this phenomena the 'free loader' effect and it became a huge national problem the last time liberals ran both the White House and Congress.

Most Democrats and all Republicans are concerned that with all the free money that POTUS Obama is passing out through increases in social spending that a new 'free loader' class of Americans will start to develop.

There is a fine line between government compassion and a government that encourages people to not work and let others just take care of them. Right now, all President Obama seems to be focused on is improving the US economy. However, in the months and years ahead he must also guard against the US turning hard working Americans into lazy government supported victims.

America Should Once Again Become A Nation Of Savers

I was once told that if we humans don't learn from our mistakes that we are destined to repeat them. Right now, President Obama and Members of Congress are trying to rebuild the US Economy on even more 'shifting sand' than before Wall Street collapsed last year.

Since the end of World War II, the US government has encouraged Americans to spend beyond their means in order to get the US economy humming along at a positive clip. However, this kiting of the US economy only leads to short term financial gains because in the end it is not sustainable because goods and services start to rise faster than the rate of wages.

What America really needs right now is for it's citizens to start saving again like they use to before World War II. Sure increased savings will slow the US economy, but at least with savings leading the way - the future could look bright for generations because the average family debt level will fall in the future.

No one issue, with the exception of abortion, divides the American people more than the one of whether or not the US health care system should be nationalized or not. Right now, POTUS Obama wants to make major changes to the US health care system, but so far his ideas and plans are not as broad as those proposed by Bill and Hillary Clinton back when they served in the White House.

For decades, I have been an opponent of nationalized US health care because I felt like it would lead to a second class health care system in the United States. However, as the years have gone by and the cost of health care has gone up much faster than the rate of inflation - I now realize that something needs to be done or US health care will become unaffordable in the near future to almost everyone.

If President Obama is smart, and I think he is, he will work to change the US health care system in small pieces - rather than trying to ram a full blown nationalized health care system down the throats of the America people all at once. Most Americas do not like big change and will reject big ideas from either major political party that interrupts the life they are comfortable with too quickly.

In what would scare the daylights out of any family, one of the Obama children Sasha, was diagnosed with meningitis when she was only three months old.

Meningitis is a very serious illness which kills tens of thousands of young children each year in the US. Sasha recovered and is now a healthy and happy seven year old little girl.

Of all the jobs facing new POTUS Obama, the one of changing the attitude of the big money company's on Wall Street has to be the toughest. For decades, GOP leaders have pretty much allowed Wall Street companies to run and regulate themselves to the point that the entire US economy came to a stand still.

While most Americas are suffering from a loss of investment money through their investment in stocks and mutual funds, a small group of people that run some Wall Street companies have not felt financial pain because they wrote employment contracts that allowed themselves to continue to earn huge bonuses even while at the same time the companies they ran were nearing bankruptcy.

Right now President Obama is trying to change this narcissistic attitude on Wall Street, but he is facing an uphill battle because lets face it - who would not want to get paid even when they did a terrible job? I wrote earlier today about how Rush Limbaugh was at the beginning of the end of his long and successful career. While Limbaugh's fall will be a long and show process, leaders in the GOP are already 'dead in the water' when it comes to the good will and wishes of the American people.

POTUS Barack Obama has maintained his public approval with the voters even though the unemployment rate has continued to rise and the stock market while a bit higher is still down 'big time' from where it was this time last year. The difference between a democratic party headed by President Obama today and the GOP headed by a radio talking head like Rush Limbaugh is as different as day and night when it comes to winning elections.

I believe the days of extremist are fading fast and with it will go the terrible days of liberal give away programs for the lazy and too so will go the tremendous power that social conservatives have held over the GOP. The day for a moderate POTUS has come and Barack Obama is fitting that bill perfectly.

For years I have listened to Rush Limbaugh on the radio and enjoyed some of the things he has to say. However, ever since Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States - the normally right wing extremist Rush Limbaugh has started to sound more like a 'gloom and doom' nut case as he daily proclaims the demise of the United States under an Obama administration.

Right now, Rush Limbaugh's ratings are very high because the 15% or so of right wing extremist in the United States have no place to turn except to Limbaugh and maybe the Fox News Network. However, that 15% of extremist right wingers use to be closer to 20% and soon the Rush Limbaugh 15% of extreme conservatives will be down to 10%.

While some people will never change and look for compromise instead of extremism, most Americans whether liberal or conservative will find their way toward moderation eventually and when that happens Rush Limbaugh's days as a major force in American politics will come to and end.

Even in the best of families, there are always disagreement and the world of politics is no different. So far, President Barack Obama has had a pretty easy time keeping members of his own party (democrats) pretty much in line when it some to carrying out his vision for the country. However, that could soon change.

For decades, the GOP has run most branches of government in Washington D.C. and there are some very liberal members of Congress that have been waiting for their chance to turn things around. From my point of view, President Obama is the most moderate POTUS in a long time - but most members of the democratic party are very liberal.

Sometime before the end of this year, there will be a major showdown between POTUS Obama and members of the democratically controlled Congress. Who will win that battle? My guess is that President Obama will continue to win as long as the American people remain loyal to his new vision for the country.

In Poker Terms, Obama Is 'All In' When It Comes To Saving The US Economy

In the game of poker, many times a good player will try a technique called 'All In' to drive his or her opponent into making a mistake. In some ways, POTUS Obama's idea of spending one trillion dollars of borrowed money to jump start the US economy is similar to that poker play.

The problem with an 'All In' strategy is that if a few months down the road a better idea comes along to fix the US economy, the county will have already spent one trillion dollars on a plan and may not have enough money for the better idea. There is far too much spending of money in Washington right now and sooner or later even the Democrats are going to say enough is enough.

Personally, I would much prefer that President Elect Obama wait awhile after taking office before he pushes his plan to spend over one trillion dollars to jump start the US economy. Most of the time, just throwing money at a problem does not solve it in the long term.

Illinois Governor Blagojevich Has Turned Into A National Disgrace

Governor Rod R. Blagojevich has turned out to be one crazy guy as nothing anyone says or does to him seems to matter. Instead of being disgraced by his terrible conduct in office, Gov.Blagojevich continues down the same dark path that lead him into so much trouble in the first place.

Things might not be so bad, if President Elect Obama was not trying to start his new administration off on the right foot. Soon to be POTUS Obama and almost everyone else in the democratic party has tried and failed to get Gov. Blagojevich to resign.

In the end, Governor Blagojevich will resign and President Elect Obama's first term as President will move forward without this terrible distraction. More than anything else, I feel sorry for the people of Illinois who voted for this guy that most certainly cares more about himself than the people he was elected to serve.

President Obama Must Continue To Back Israel Against Hamas Terrorist

There is a different kind of mindset in the Gaza Strip, which is now headed by the terrorist organization called Hamas. Rather than Hamas leading it's people to a safer and better way of life, they are instead ready to sacrifice every man, woman and child in an effort to wipe Israel off the map.

Soon, there will be a new President of the United States named Barack Obama and my guess is that he will follow closely the lead of current President Bush in supporting Israel against the terrorist group, Hamas. Let's not forget that Hamas started this fight by firing missiles into Israel, which is suicidal considering the State of Israel could wipe out Hamas within a matter of days if it wanted to.

This current Israeli/Hamas fight could not have come at a worst time for President Elect Obama because he has said all along that his first priority after taking office in January will be to fix the US economy. While Obama is capable of multitasking his role as President, it would be better for him if Israel and Hamas were not killing each other.

President Elect Obama Departs Hawaii For Chicago, Then Washington D.C.

The last real rest that Barack Obama will get in a very long time just finished after an extended vacation in Hawaii. Now, President Elect Obama is headed back to Chicago and then within the next few days he and his family will depart for Washington D.C. for his January 20th swearing in ceremony as the next President of the United States.

In one of the last photos I saw of future POTUS Obama, while still in Hawaii, I noticed that he is still wearing some type of cell phone on his belt. You might remember several weeks ago there was intense pressure from national security and legal types for him (Obama) to stop using his Blackberry communications device because of security concerns and possible legal consequences down the road.

During that Blackberry discussion, Barack Obama made it clear that he wanted to continue to use his Blackberry even after he becomes the 44th President of the United States. My hope is that there is some type of secure device he will be able to use as President, because Obama is correct that it does not take long for a President to become completely out of touch with the American people.

Very few people would proclaim that 2008 was a good year for them. As high gas prices made it expensive to drive during the first half of the year to corruption on Wall Street the likes that no one had ever seen before, 2008 was dreadful and everyone is praying for a better 2009.

The New Year will bring with it a new President of the United States, Barack Obama, and while his job will be tough in the beginning - he does have the fact that most Americans want to see him succeed as a big chip in his pocket. I am hoping that President Obama will lead this country as a moderate and not a political extremist. This country has suffered long enough with political extremism.

The only fear I have for the New Year is that the United States will drift too far to the left. Extreme liberal and conservative politics do not work over the long haul and at least for right now, Barack Obama seems to understand that real moderation is what is needed to repair this country at this period of history.

President Obama Must Fight Urge To Bailout All Companies In Financial Trouble

Using government (taxpayer) money to bailout companies is quickly becoming an addiction that the American people cannot afford or sustain for any length of time. True capitalism involves not just the success of well run businesses, but the failure of those that don't do their jobs right.

Over the past few months, the government of the United States has allowed some very poorly run companies to survive by bailing them out with taxpayer money. If history repeats itself, before long these companies will fail anyway and all that will have been gained by bailing them out will be a couple of extra months of jobs for the people that work there who soon will be forced to find a new job, anyway.

There are no shortcuts that will work to fix the US economy. In fact, it is shortcuts that caused this current economic problem in the first place. The only way to really rebuild the US economy in a strong and lasting way is for President Obama to set a good foundation and let the magic of time work things out.

Illinois Gov. Blagojevich A Thorn In The Side Of Barack Obama

Either Gov. Rod Blagojevich is a wrongly accused man or he is most certainly a politician that has a few screws loose upstairs. No matter which is the right description of Governor Blagojevich, over the past month he has become a huge thorn in the side of President Elect Barack Obama.

After Obama won his race to become the next President of the United States in November, all seemed well as his transition team moved with grace and efficiency to build his new administration. Then came the revelation that Obama's own governor Rod Blagojevich was caught on tape trying to sell Senator Obama's Senate Seat to the highest bidder.

It was bad enough when Gov. Blagojevich was caught on tape by federal authorities trying to solicit money for a Senate appointment, but now that he is refusing to resign - he is creating even a worse problem for President Elect Obama. The time has come for Gov. Blagojevich to resign, but I am quite confident that he will not.

Hamas Gaza/Israel Dispute Could Distract Barack Obama From More Important Tasks

I know my comments here may be taken wrong by some of you, but I can't help but believe that our new President Barack Obama has more important things to deal with when he takes office in January than another round of attacks and counter attacks by Gaza and Israel. For my entire life, Israel and the Palestinians have been killing each other and no amount of negotiation seems to stop the killing for long.

In my view, nothing will stop the violence until everyone in the Middle East decides that Israel, as a nation, is here to stay and Arabs decided to live with that fact, if even under protest. For far too long, the natural hatred of Israel by poor Arabs have allowed ruthless Arab leaders to hold onto power because they could always blame all the problems of their people on bad Jews.

President Elect Obama must summon the strength to not get involved in this latest round of killing between Israel and the Hamas government in Gaza. Instead, I believe he should turn a cold shoulder to the whole mess and just let the party's that want to keep killing each other continue, while he moves forward to solve other domestic issues where Americans are eager to follow his lead.

Too Many People Are Trying To Make Money Off Of Barack Obama's Success

Over the past few weeks, I have seen dozens of television commercials trying to sell everything from coins, with Barack Obama's picture on them, to commemorative plates which are also embossed with President Elect Obama's photo. While it is natural that in a free country like the USA for people to try and make a buck off of something like Barack Obama being the first African-American President, some of these commercials are going a bit far, in my view.

The TV ads for the commemorative coins were produced in good taste, but the television ads for a plate with Barack Obama's picture on them are over the top. It's not the plate itself that gives me pause, but the way in which one of these television commercials have the whole family sitting around in a living room somewhere just mesmerized that they own a piece of real US history.

President Elect Obama will face larger challenges than any other new American leader when he takes office in less than 30 days. I believe most Americans wish him well and most certainly we all want him to fix the troubled US economy which will be no small task. I guess I should just ignore those terrible Obama embossed plate TV ads, but every time they are shown I want to change the channel.

60 Minutes Ran A Good Show Tonight Featuring Barack Obama's Campaign For President

Tonight, the CBS News Magazine Show '60 Minutes' had a great show where they interviewed Barack Obama on many different occasions during the early days of his campaign for the democratic nomination for President and right up until a few days after he won the office of President of the United States in November.

I love to watch retrospective shows like the one presented on '60 Minutes' tonight, because at the time many of these interviews were conducted with Barack Obama, he was no where close to even winning his party's nomination much less the general election against a veteran politician like John McCain.

I also enjoyed the segment tonight on '60 Minutes' when they interviewed the top campaign strategist for Barack Obama. While they were quick to give all the credit for his success to him (Obama), political junkies know that no candidate can successful walk through the mine field of winning a US presidential general election, without some very smart people helping you along the way.

Some Health Care Worker Attitudes Are Bad As Prices Continues to Rise

Over the past twenty years or so, not only has the price of health care grown at a higher rate than inflation - but the bad attitudes of health care workers has shot up as well. Nothing angers me more than for any business to treat my consumer dollars with disrespect when I make the choice to do business them them. In my mind, the business of health care is no different than any other business because we as consumers are the customers of doctors and hospitals and not the other way around.

When Barack Obama becomes our new President in 2009, my hope is that he will follow through with his promise to reform the health care system in the United States. By reform, I am talking about more than just getting the price of services provided brought back down to reasonable levels. In my mind, consumers should be allowed to have greater flexibility in choosing their own doctor so they are not forced to continue to be treated by medical professionals that suffer from a bad attitude.

When a person is sick and forced to visit a doctor to get better, the last thing they want to contend with is a nurse or doctor that makes their illness even worst by treating them like a dog when they show up for help. Hopefully, President Obama will deal both with the extremely high cost of medical care in the United States and the terrible customer service that some medical doctors/hospitals provide when people show up at the medical facilities for treatment.

Foreclosures Are the Leading Cause Of the Ever Slowing US Economy

Many of the current problems facing the US economy could be corrected if President Elect Obama could find a way to stop the ever increasing number of US foreclosures. Some, 'smart by half', experts on Wall Street created the current mortgage foreclosure crisis when they made home ownership available to anyone, despite credit problems.

Now the job of fixing the ever increasing number for home foreclosures will fall at the feet of Barack Obama when he becomes the next President on January 20th. At that time, he (Barack Obama) will be forced to make hard choices which will include forcing some homeowners out of properties they could never afford in the first place, but who were told they could by some unscrupulous mortgage leaders.

To date, the people and businesses that caused this problem have not been held to full account for their actions. Right now, the most important thing President Obama can do is to fix the mortgage crisis. However, when that job is done - there are some very rich people that need to pay a visit to a federal criminal court.

The Longer Rod Blagojevich Remains In Office, The More Damage Is Done To Obama

Rod Blagojevich, the embattled Governor of Illinois does not want to go quietly into the night as long as he still has a few chips left to cash in. While most observers see the behavior of Gov. Blagojevich as inexcusable, for other mainstream politicians in Illinois he was just following the template of other former politicians from that state that personally enriched themselves through public service.

The biggest chip that Gov. Blagojevich still has in the political game in Illinois is a big one because of who the next President of the United States will be. President Elect Obama has been trying to distance himself from the terrible conduct of Gov. Blagojevich for over a week now - but the longer he (Blagojevich) remains in office, the more damage he will do to the new Obama administration.

Watching the attitude of Gov. Blagojevich after being caught red handed trying to enrich himself by selling Senator Barack Obama's old Senate seat to the highest bidder, causes me to also have concerns about the President Elect and what type of 'good old boy' deals he also was involved with as a US Senator from the State of Illinois?

New Obama Cabinet Moderate On Economy, Really Liberal On The Environment

Just judging from the backgrounds of the people Barack Obama has appointed to cabinet positions so far, it is beginning to appear to me that he is going to run the United States of America in a two pronged approach. On major issues like the economy and war/peace, President Elect Obama is going to be a true moderate.

However, on environmental issues - Obama appears to be leaning more left in his appointments. In a way, I believe President Elect Obama has the right flavor when it comes to leading the United States for the next four years. Sure, conservatives are not going to like his liberal approach to environmental issues - but many of those same conservatives will like his stands on improving the economy and protecting this country from harm.

For a long time now, the President of the United States has lead from a center/right position - but the American people voted for change this election year so in the end what we will likely get from Barack Obama is a center/left federal government over the next four years. Most Americans will like a center/left federal government, but there will be some hard-core conservatives that will think the world is coming to an end.
